NUKE POINT BATCH 002
Nuke Point is an intense combination of El Dorado, Southern Cross and Kohatu hops.
From commissioning the brew deck in early February until now, we’ve brewed just over 50,000 litres. One of those batches, our pride and joy, is the Nuke Point 001.
An intensely hoppy 6% IPA consisting of healthy doses of El Dorado, Southern Cross, and Kohatu hops. Ripe fruits immediately invade your nostrils and are chased down by a heavy finishing layer of bitter resin. Though only brewed to 60 IBU’s, the perceived bitterness however pushes onward and upward, most likely due to the 12g/L dry hop. And to top it all off, one batch will be released each month, shipped cold, straight from the fermenter, to a stockist fridge. Finally, an IPA that is guaranteed under 30 days fresh.
In some ways, the idea of what Nuke Point is to the brewers is similar to the idea behind the name of the centre stage hop – El Dorado. The origins of El Dorado stretch back to the 1500’s, when tales of a mythical Muisca chief, that would cover himself in gold dust, spread across the Spanish Empire. Over time, El Dorado eventually became not just a man, but a lost city of gold, one that many adventurers attempted and failed to discover.
In short, El Dorado was Fortune and Glory. Obsession driving many a quest for something that might not even exist. The Holy Grail.
And there it is, Nuke Point is our El Dorado. Our aim is to continually refine Nuke Point from batch to batch in the hopes we might one day, when the sun is shining just right, see a reflection of that lost empire in a freshly poured pint of our most prized golden liquid. With your help dear reader, we will have a great adventure seeking our prize..
For Nuke Point Batch 002, we’ve incorporated a couple changes. We’ve modified our grist bill slightly changing the type of oats we used to add body. Furthermore, we found the finishing gravity on Batch 001 to be a bit low, so we are bringing up our mash temp just a touch. And finally, we will scale back the big bad Warrior we use at the beginning of the boil to soften the actual IBU’s leaving room for the perceived IBU’s to stretch their muscles a bit more.
We’re excited. Join us on the next leg of our quest with Nuke Point 002 in stores on Friday, April 5th!
Remember, Fresh is Best!
